EPB and Moxy Hotel Partnership Supports Green Lodging and Special Events Powered by Solar Share

Chattanooga, TN (May 2, 2019) - In celebration of Earth Month, Moxy Chattanooga Downtown, which hosts a signature event every month to engage hotel guests and locals alike, has partnered with EPB to express their commitment to environmental sustainability. Through the partnership, Moxy will purchase renewable energy credits equivalent to the environmental impact of powering their events. EPB will provide 100% solar generated energy toward the credits from the Solar Share facility on Holtzclaw Avenue, which is Chattanooga’s only community solar deployment.

Through the partnership, Moxy is purchasing enough renewable energy credits to cover all 12 of the events planned over the next year. In doing so, Moxy is reducing the estimated equivalent environmental impact of charging 1.4 Million smart phones. More information and online guest signup is available at solarmystay.com/.

“EPB is proud to partner with Moxy Chattanooga Downtown, which is our first business customer to take advantage of Solar Share to host green events,” said Elizabeth Hammett, EPB’s Director of Community and Environmental Stewardship. “Solar Share is a great way for companies to express their commitment to sustainability in a way that is meaningful to their customers.”

Moxy is also the first Chattanooga hotel to use Solar Share to offer guests the option of reducing the estimated environmental impact of their lodging at a cost of $1.58 per night. Participating guests can support local solar power generation while reducing the estimated equivalent impact of burning 16.4 pounds of coal.

"Moxy Chattanooga is pleased to be participating in the Solar Share program. It’s important to us and our guests that we do what we can to reduce our carbon footprint. We take other, smaller steps in sustainability, like only offering paper straws," said Dwayne Massengale, Captain (General Manager). “But the solar panels on our roof and our commitment to the Solar Share program are what really show our dedication to green initiatives. We want to be a leader in promoting sustainability in the hospitality industry. Chattanooga is a beautiful city, in a spectacular area. People come from all around the world to see it. We want to keep it as it is so that future generations get to enjoy it as much as we do."

EPB provides businesses and individuals that participate in Solar Share with a digital certificate and the authorized use of a special Solar Share logo for inclusion in signage, invitations, and web placements.

In addition, Solar Share is an easy and affordable way for EPB customers to make their own events greener whether they are planning an environmentally sustainable birthday party, wedding or business conference. Simply go to EPB’s Event Carbon Calculator at EPB.com/SolarEvents. It takes less than a minute for a customer to input some basic

information about their gathering and get more information about how to purchase offsets to make their event green.

For customers who want to participate in local solar power generation on a continuing basis, Solar Share is the easy way to go solar for as little as $5 a month. Find out more at EPB.com/SolarShare.
