Update (9:00 PM): Following storms that swept through the Chattanooga area both on both Saturday and Sunday evening, EPB is working as quickly as possible to restore power to about 500 customers who continue to experience outages due to damage to the system. Over the last two days, the Smart Grid has prevented outages or auto-restored power to about 10,100 customers. EPB will continue working until all customers have power. Here are some ways to save on energy costs long term.



Cooking / Kitchen



New Appliances

When shopping for appliances, look for the most energy-efficient model in your price range. Federal law requires that yellow Energy Guide labels be placed on all new furnaces, refrigerators, freezers, water heaters, dishwashers, clothes washers and heat pumps. Use the labels to estimate annual energy costs when comparing models. And remember, Energy Star qualified appliances are the most efficient on the market.

Water Heater Rebates

EPB offers a $50 credit on your electric bill when you replace a new electric water heater in an existing home (new home construction doesn’t qualify). Save $50 now, and even more on your monthly bills over the life of the appliance.

Simply complete the application (WaterHeaterRebate_0.pdf) and attach the sales receipt plus a manufacturer’s description showing it is an electric water heater of at least 40 gallons. Then submit completed applications to EPB within 60 days of purchase by:
