For safety’s sake, always assume that a fallen power line is live. For your protection, follow the guidelines listed below.
Downed-power lines safety tips:
NEVER touch a power line – whether fallen or on a pole with your hands, feet or any object.
Avoid driving over downed lines – and call 911 immediately if you encounter one.
If a power line falls on your car – stay inside, honk the horn and roll down the window. Call for help but tell people to stay away from your vehicle until a first responder arrives.
If a fire starts from a downed line on your car – keep your hands at your sides and jump clear of the car so you’re not touching the car when your feet hit the ground.
Be careful – with ladders, balloons, remote control drones and toys, and tree pruning equipment around power lines. Never climb power poles and call a professional to trim limbs around power lines.
