Your energy your way: Choose the rate plan option that matches your lifestyle.

Because not every customer uses energy the same way, EPB offers a selection of rate plan options to meet the needs of various lifestyles and budgets.

For most customers, our Base Rate Plan is the most convenient and affordable. At an estimated rate of about 12 cents per kWh, including the variable TVA Fuel Cost Adjustment that fluctuates throughout the year, you'll benefit from one of the lowest residential energy rates in the country. For comparison, in some areas of the country, customers pay as much as 25-40 cents per kWh. With one low rate for all your energy needs, you have the freedom to choose when to use energy in your home.

Residential Energy Rate Plan Options

It’s important to pick a rate plan option that you feel confident will fit your lifestyle and give you the most opportunity to save — especially if you choose the Night Shift Plan, which can’t be changed for a year. If you choose a specialized rate plan that fluctuates with the time of day, you could end up paying more if your energy usage doesn’t line up with the rate’s specified cost-effective hours. We're always here to help you make the best choice. Our EPB Energy ProsSM are happy to answer your questions and help you figure out the best rate plan option for your household.

Our Best Value...

When you pick the Base Rate Plan, your energy rates are the same no matter what time it is. This gives you the freedom to use energy any time you need it without putting your activities on hold to wait for a more cost-effective time of day. The best way to maximize your energy savings and convenience is by adding EPB Levelized Billing to your Base Rate Plan to flatten your monthly payments and eliminate billing spikes that can occur when your HVAC is working overtime in extreme temperatures.

How Your Energy Bill is Determined

Step 1: Your Base Rate Plan is a sum of the energy charge and the variable TVA Fuel Cost Adjustment.

Energy Charge per kWh $0.091
TVA Fuel Cost Adjustment* $0.028*
Base Rate Plan per kWh $0.119

Step 2: Your monthly bill is based on the kWh charge from Step 1, your energy used and a standard customer charge. The below example shows a calculation based on the monthly usage of 900 kWh.

Base Rate Plan per kWh $0.119
Monthly kWh Used 900 kWh
Customer Charge $9.81
Your Total Monthly Bill $116.91

Time Shift Plan

With the EPB Time Shift Plan, customers can take advantage of a reduced kWh rate during specified hours when demand is typically lower (i.e. “off-peak” hours). These hours vary seasonally. Energy used during all other hours (i.e. "on-peak" hours) will be charged a higher rate than the EPB Base Rate Plan.

To optimize the potential savings of this plan, customers need to schedule their energy-intensive activities, such as laundry, dishwashing, EV charging, etc. to the designated off-peak hours. Gaining any savings from this plan comes down to shifting your electricity usage outside of the busy morning hours of 6–10 a.m. during cooler months and 3–7 p.m. during warmer months (i.e. “on-peak” hours).

Remember: Weather also impacts your energy bill

Even with the most meticulous management of your energy use, weather swings can spike your energy costs. With the EPB Base Rate Plan, you don't have to worry about your HVAC working overtime during on-peak hours in cooler and warmer months or overnight to keep you comfortable. Your energy rate is the same all day and all night.
