Indigobush

Amorpha fruticosa

A hardy native shrub with airy foliage and striking purple flower spikes that bloom in late spring. Indigobush thrives in a wide range of conditions and is often used for wildlife habitat and erosion control.

• Dimensions: 6–12 feet tall, 6–15 feet wide
• Water Use: Low to Medium. Once established, it tolerates drought surprisingly well despite naturally occurring near rivers and streambanks.
• Light Requirement: Thrives in full sun to partial shade.
• Soil Moisture: Adaptable to moist, wet, or moderately dry soils. Performs especially well in areas that experience occasional flooding.
• Ornamental Use: Excellent for naturalized landscapes, rain gardens, pond edges, and informal screens. Attractive purple flowers add seasonal interest.
