amber-fults

Blowing across the surface of the Tennessee River is the hint of an acoustic guitar and a voice -- a voice that possesses both an inherent strength and vulnerability. Slowly, other noises become drawn into its gravity: bits of sparse piano, some orchestral flourishes and the odd crackle of an electric guitar. At the center of this growing roar is Chattanooga musician Amber Fults, who delivers euphoric self-expression from within the intersection of the singer-songwriter and pop-rock aesthetics. Her music, however, isn’t merely the sum of these particular genres – her musical roots branch out in countless directions, drawing upon a wealth of inspiration and experience to fashion this persuasive and occasionally aching sound.

Through her folk-tinged arrangements, she offers both an evocative minimalism and something that often rises into the realm of orchestrated indie pop. With a voice that can evoke somber revelation and joyous euphoria in equal measure, she never lingers in a single rhythmic moment for very long, opting instead to pursue a wide range of influences and inspirations. Ever questioning and always eager to connect with anyone within earshot, she uses music as a means of connection, of communication. Whether she’s exploring the dissolution of a caustic relationship or the intoxicating happiness of finding freedom from personal tribulation, her music encourages and advocates for discovering a healthy self-worth – she doesn’t wallow in past darkness but uses those memories to find a way to keep those things as far from her as possible. Amber Fults speaks from the heart, an often bruised and worn thing, but also a heart filled with love and support, and open to all the new experiences surrounding her.

Magic Birds is a Chattanooga, TN-based band made up of Scott Bruce and Ben Ezell. Delivering their own brand of Americana music, the duo blends together elements of classic country, bluegrass and folk, producing a stripped-down style of music that exemplifies the sound that has helped shape their lives. Telling stories that they have heard over time, stories they have lived through and stories they have simply imagined, Magic Birds continues to put their heart and soul into the music they create.

Since releasing their debut album, The Music of Benjamin Bruce, in 2015, they have shared the stage with major national touring artists, but their passion for the blossoming Chattanooga music scene has led them to build great relationships with artists of all genres in the Scenic City, and they have had the pleasure of performing alongside their friends on many occasions.

In 2023, they released their sophomore album, Twenty-Three. They kept true to their Americana style of storytelling, but with local Chattanooga musician Nick Lutsko producing the album for them, they sought out many of their musician friends around Chattanooga to help them present their newest batch of songs with a full-band sound. The album features appearances by Amber Fults, Matt Shigekawa, Dan Pinson, Randy Steele, Deron Stevens, John Boulware, Drew Streip, and of course, Nick Lutsko.

Today, they are busy working on self-producing their third album, and they continue to perform live around the region, growing their fanbase and molding the story of Magic Birds. Their music can be found online just about anywhere you can find music. So, if you cannot catch them live, find their music, turn it on, turn it up and take a musical journey with Magic Birds!

rick-rushing

Rick Rushing, a native of Cincinnati Ohio, learned how to play guitar down south in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He comes from a musical heritage, most notably blues-jazz legend, Jimmy Rushing, vocalist and musician for Count Basie’s big band orchestra. As a full-time musician, he performs locally and regionally with his blues band Rick Rushing & The Blues Strangers. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2004 with a Bachelor's in Arts and Sciences and is currently a musical artist-in-residence at the Creative Discovery Museum. His roots in music are blues-based which allows him to play all genres including jazz, folk, reggae-rock, R&B, and classical music. Along with playing the ukulele, bass guitar, and drums, he is a Wolf Trap Teaching Artist, songwriter and vocalist.

randy-steele

Randy Steele is more than an award winning singer/songwriter and he is more than a great banjo player from Tennessee. He has a viewpoint on the world that is without filters. His lines are poignant, they have meaning and feel. ‘Home is Where the Hardest Part is’ he pines in ‘Mobile Soon’, the Independent Music Association winner for Best Bluegrass Song. ‘Melissa had a baby when she was Seventeen, but the State took him away because his blood wasn’t clean’ begins the ‘Age of Ben’ which caught the attention of American Songwriter Magazine and placed Steele as a Semi-Finalist in Song of the Year Category in 2024. ‘The Extra Mile is a Gravel Road’ from Steele’s latest release, continues with this trend of cut to the bone lyrical presence. The songs have a point, they have meaning and it’s evident immediately in Steele’s performances.

With a viewpoint based on decades of work as a Professional Firefighter in an impoverished community and a musical style crafted from years of Bluegrass, Jamband, and Singer/Songwriter shows, Randy and the High Cold Wind have been turning heads and ears since their inception as a support band for Randy’s songwriter touring. His first solo album ‘Songs from the Suck’ was released in early 2017 followed by ‘Moccasin Bender’ released in the summer of 2018 and ‘High Cold Wind’ in 2023. All of these releases were met with critical acclaim and spotlights from dozens of music critics, including Relix Magazine, No Depression, Americana Highways, and The Bluegrass Situation. Steele has also been a finalist in the New Song LEAF Songwriting Competition in North Carolina and the Kerrville Folk Festival ‘New Folk’ competition in Texas. Randy is also a proud resident of Red Bank Tennessee.

Chattanooga-born musician Adam Stone and Nashville native Joel Forlines have been creating together for nearly a decade—on stages, in studios, and everywhere in between. Their collaboration began in 2016 with a simple goal: to make more music together. Since then, that spark has evolved into thousands of hours of shared performances and recordings. Their sound stretches across genres but always finds its way home to the Southern roots that shaped them. At the heart of their partnership is a mutual freedom—to create without boundaries and let the music become whatever the moment calls for. Whether performing as a duo, solo, or alongside a full ensemble, Stone and Forlines thrive as part of a growing community of artists helping to weave the next chapter in the story of American music.
