CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Nov. 17, 2025)—Amidst an increasingly difficult time for many families, EPB and TVA have invested a total of $180,000 into PowerShare this year to help neighbors in need with food, utility and housing assistance. This investment marks the sixth consecutive year that the two organizations have dedicated funding to support families in need through United Way, for a joint total of $1.38 million since 2020.
“EPB’s mission of enhancing quality of life in our community includes serving all our neighbors,” said EPB CEO David Wade. “That’s why it’s important to continue investing to help people in our community meet unexpected challenges.”
Through PowerShare, formerly called the Bridge Fund, EPB works with the United Way of Greater Chattanooga’s 211 program. Separate from PowerShare, individual EPB employees made personal contributions totaling more than $225,000 to the United Way during its 2025 annual campaign.
“For more than 90 years now, TVA has worked to uplift communities across the Tennessee Valley. We continue to meet that mission through investments like the Community Care Fund, which we’re using to support PowerShare in the Chattanooga area,” said Dan Pratt, Senior Vice President of Customer & Stakeholder Relations, TVA. “We’re proud to join EPB in helping families afford critical needs.”
Across the Tennessee Valley, TVA has supported more than 1,000 organizations with $32.4 million in assistance since 2020 through the Community Care Fund, in partnership with local power companies like EPB, which provide matching funds.
“Even with full-time jobs, it’s becoming more and more difficult for many working families to afford basic needs like food, bills and housing,” said United Way of Greater Chattanooga President & CEO Lesley Scearce. “We appreciate EPB and TVA’s continued dedication to helping provide for neighbors in need.”
According to the United Way of Greater Chattanooga, the cost of living for a family with two children in childcare rose by $8,200 in one year. This has had a significant impact on many working families, including those designated as ALICE – Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained, Employed. The number of local ALICE households has increased by 15% over the last year.
