Improving Our Community’s Resiliency.

Meeting the demands of today. Anticipating the needs of tomorrow.

Delivering resilient energy begins with the efficient EPB automated grid—the nation’s most advanced power grid. Since its launch in 2009, the Advanced Grid has reduced outages by 55%. This, plus increased energy storage and new microgrid solutions, will help us ensure reliable, affordable energy and communications services for years to come.

50 megawatts of storage currently deployed.

This important storage capacity is helping to power our community more reliably—and affordably. By storing energy when demand is low and using it when demand spikes or in the event of an outage, we’re easing stress on the grid and helping lower energy costs for everyone. That’s why we’re currently working toward a goal of 150 megawatts of storage.

EPB Stored Energy

Microgrids powering essential services.

By combining solar energy with storage, microgrids can operate independently during outages to keep the Police Services Center, the fire department, and the airport running without interruption. It’s an important investment in our community that ensures critical services stay online when our community needs them most.

Solar Farm

Coming in 2028: 33 megawatts of additional solar.

This exciting partnership with TVA and Silicon Ranch will bring 33 megawatts of power from a new solar installation in West Tennessee. Not only does this enhance our energy resiliency, it enables EPB to keep energy rates lower over time. It’s all part of a larger effort to keep energy costs down and boost reliability.

Additional Solar

Preventing outages by maintaining healthy trees.

Abundant natural greenery puts the "scenic" in Scenic City. But when it encroaches on EPB power lines, our expert arborists step in. Through careful, proactive pruning, we keep foliage healthy along more than 3,000 miles of lines, helping to stop outages before they start. This essential work strengthens the resilience of our energy grid—helping to protect homes, businesses, and critical services.

Healthy Trees

Improving resilience with FREE trees.

When planted a safe distance from power lines, trees do more than beautify our neighborhoods. Healthy trees with strong roots stabilize soil and reduce stormwater runoff, helping prevent flooding and protect our electrical and communications infrastructure. That’s why we partnered with Reflection Riding and the City of Chattanooga to provide trees to over 6,000 local families for free.
