What is EPB PowerShare?

EPB PowerShare is a voluntary program that allows EPB Energy customers to help local families who need temporary assistance paying their electric bill.

Even a small contribution can help keep the lights on and provide stability for a family in need.

How it works:

  1. 1. EPB and TVA are contributing $180,000 to support families facing challenges with utility bills, rent, and basic needs.
  2. 2. You can join us by giving as little as $1 per month as a recurring or one-time donation on your energy bill.
  3. 3. 100% of your donation goes directly to helping a neighbor pay their energy bill.
  4. 4. United Way manages all funds. Families can call 211 to be screened and connected to assistance.

“I had just started a new job, but didn’t have enough to cover all bills and our electric has been past due. United Way stepped in and helped my family by connecting us to PowerShare. The payment helped us pay our past due electric bill. Thank you!”

Be a part of something powerful for our community

Many families only need help once—after a medical bill, a job loss, a car repair, or another unexpected hardship. EPB PowerShare gives them a bridge during that moment.

Just $1 a month can help United Way serve more families who are waiting for assistance. And when many of us give a little, it adds up to something powerful.

Why can’t EPB give electricity away for free to people in need?

As a community-based utility, EPB is legally required to treat all customers fairly and consistently. That means we can’t waive or forgive charges for one customer without doing the same for everyone since not charging some means shifting costs to other customers. As part of our mission to serve the whole community, we work hard to deliver very reliable services at the best possible value while covering the real expenses (like poles, power lines, and substations) necessary to deliver electricity to every local home and business.

I can’t afford to pay my bill. What is EPB doing to help?

As a company and through individual employee giving, EPB supports United Way of Greater Chattanooga and other local non-profits that provide emergency support for people in need. We also invite our customers to join us by donating through PowerShare to help cover the cost for customers who are struggling. If you’re having difficulties paying your bill, we’ll work with you individually to make flexible payment arrangements and connect you with community assistance. Please call us, (423) 648-1372.
