Frequently Asked Questions

Find helpful answers to help you install your new router with confidence.

After setting up my new router, will my devices automatically connect to the WiFi network?

If you use the same SSID (WiFi network name) and password you had for your old router, all of your devices should connect automatically after you finish setting up your new router. If certain devices like laptops, tablets or smart TVs aren’t connecting, you may need to manually join the network on those devices. If you have any issues connecting your devices, you can call or text the EPB Tech Pros at 423‑648‑1372. We’re available 24/7/365.

Can I change my SSID (WiFi network name) and password?

Yes, you can change your the name of your network and password at any time in the Plume Home app.

Do I need WiFi access point extenders?

Most homes under about 2,500 square feet don’t need extenders. An EPB representative should have provided you with all the equipment you need for your EPB Smart Net Plus WiFi service. If you have any questions about your hardware, you can call or text the EPB Tech Pros at 423‑648‑1372. We’re available 24/7/365.

Do I need the Plume Home app after I’m finished installing my new router?

Yes. In addition to setup, the Plume Home app is how you monitor, secure, and optimize your Smart Net Plus WiFi. You can create user profiles to measure usage, filter unwanted content, and even block ads. Use the Focus feature to schedule access to apps to manage screen time. Traffic Boost lets you prioritize certain devices, apps, or user profiles. Great for important work calls or gaming. Advanced security features help protect your home’s network, data and devices from cyber threats and malware.

I received WiFi access point extenders. How do I set these up?

If you received additional WiFi access point extenders, you can place them around your home to help extend coverage. They do not need Ethernet cables, just power. Make sure they are plugged into a power source. Placement: a good rule of thumb is to place extenders about 25 feet from one another and your router for optimal coverage throughout your home. Once you set up your WiFi network in the Plume Home app, any extenders you have should automatically join your network.

My WiFi isn’t working very well. What can I do?

There are many factors that can affect WiFi performance. Common sources of interference are:

  • Other WiFi networks: especially in dense urban areas or close proximity to airports, hospitals and police stations.
  • Non-WiFi devices: Cordless phones, microwave ovens, Bluetooth devices, security cameras, wireless speakers, TVs.
  • Electrical interference: motors, power lines, fluorescent lights, and sometimes dimmer switches.

Placement strategy:

  • We understand that you may be limited on where you can position it based on where your power outlets and Ethernet wall outlet are located. If possible, position your router 5-10 feet away from TVs
